About the project

Khattat, meaning calligraphist in Arabic and Farsi, is a new wiki-style website that aims to attract the active participation of both amateurs and connoisseurs to create a robust annotated library of Arabic, Ottoman and Persian calligraphy. Its aim is to both expand and make more accessible the admirable and complex art of calligraphy..
Researchers, collectors and amateurs are invited to join the platform by creating an account.  Upon signing in, they can upload or download any document very easily.   It allows Arabic, Ottoman and Persian calligraphy lovers to share their favorite manuscripts, whether aesthetic or rare, and creates a community discussion around those pieces.  Khattat allows institutions, academics, artists and collectors to share their knowledge of the most varied calligraphy.

While all participants are welcome, Katthat  administrators nevertheless have the right to reject any contribution that may appear offensive or inappropriate.
